Welcome to my website. Here you can read about me personally, and the things I am interested in. To navigate just click on the bar at the top of the page. If you would like to contact me, go to the contact page for details. This page is part of my Masters Degree in Translation, the idea is that I write this and develop my Dreamweaver skills. Sorry about the cheesy photos, they are the only ones I have readily in digital format. Anyway I hope you enjoy browsing. I will try to keep this site up to date, any updates will be mentioned here. 10-April-2007 - Added a link in the Chinese section 24-June-2007 - Got an article published in an academic journal go to the translation section for details. 10-July-2007 - I'm happy to say I have been accepted as an unpaid volunteer on the website chinadialogue.net this is a chartiable website which aims to break down the language barrier in environmental communication between the UK and China. This is a very important task as both the UK and China are heavily involved in the global warming problem and other environmental issues. The site has articles by people like Al Gore, Ian McEwan, George Monboit and others. Take a look. 13-July-2007 - You may be glad to hear that I have passed all my Degree modules and am just finishing my dissertation. I've tidied up the translation page slightly and added a couple more links. 13-July-2007 - I strongly oppose the planned UK ID database. I'm not that bothered about having a card with my name and address and stuff on it. But I don't want the government to keep my entire history on a massive database. We know from history what governments have done with personal information. Not to mention attacks from hackers. ID cards do not stop terrorism (as we've seen in Spain), they won't deter human trafficking (the traffickers can get hold of fake passports so why not fake ID's), all the terrorists that have attacked UK or US targets were carrying valid ID cards, or passports. It just expensive, unnecessary, and happens to be lining the pockets of the politicians who are pushing for it! We must oppose this scheme. Click the link below to read more, it will take you out of this page. While on the subject of government and politics, can I recommend Democracy Now, it's the only really unbiased reliable source of real news. Frequent guests include Tony Benn and Noam Chomsky, and it's free. I also recommend it to my English students, It's also a good way to get a bit of listening practice. Click on the link below to leave this site and see their site. There is a new mp3 podcast and video broadcast for downloading daily (except weekends). 22-November-2007 - It looks like I will be getting an A grade for my MSc dissertation. Meanwhile I am now here in Taiwan which I am so far finding quite disappointing but in some ways rewarding. I will be upgrading this site much more regularly from now on since I have a brand new laptop with FrontPage. By the way reading about the leaks from the Home Office today strengthens my position above about the ID cards. |
